About

The RNCM Wind Orchestra revisits Dances with Winds two decades after its original Chandos Records recording, presenting a fresh and exhilarating programme. Featuring three works from the original album – Hesketh’s Danceries, Corigliano’s Gazebo Dances, and Gorb’s Yiddish Dances – this concert replaces Skalkottas’ Greek Dances with Luis Serrano Alarcón’s Duende, a vibrant, flamenco-infused suite. New works by RNCM student composers add another exciting layer, while staff and students perform side-by-side in this dynamic celebration of wind music.

Patterson Little Red Riding Hood from Revolting Rhymes

The forest: strange, eery, mysterious, magnificent. A place of magic and surprise where nothing is quite what it seems.

You might think you know the story of Little Red Riding Hood, but this musical adaption of Roald Dahl’s wicked Revolting Rhymes turns this classic woodland tale into a cheeky, riotous adventure.

Performed by musicians from Chetham’s School of Music and conducted by Felicity Cliffe, this concert will feature the quaint story of Mr Bear’s Christmas as well as music from The Four Seasons by Vivaldi.

Perfect for children aged 7 – 107, these family concerts give children a fun introduction to the orchestra through music and storytelling.

Concerts will last approximately 1 hour.

Nature's Music - RNCM at The Manchester Museum

For one night only, musicians from the Royal Northern College of Music will transform Manchester Museum into an immersive experience where the allure of music meets the awe of nature.

Wander through the Museum’s collections as RNCM students perform live music, creating a soundtrack to our natural world that echoes from every corner.

Listen to the whispers of ancient stones in the Fossils and Dinosaur galleries. Experience the choruses of birds and bees in the gallery of the Living Worlds. Audio depictions of sun, rain, land, and sky come alive in the galleries of Egypt and Sudan, South Asia, and Chinese Culture before a not-to-be-missed performance of Ralph Vaughan Williams’ The Lark Ascending is unveiled in a rarely performed arrangement for violin and chamber choir.

You’ll also be able to put your own creativity into practice with an open-to-all crafting workshop.

And if this nocturnal voyage leaves you feeling parched, you’ll be able to grab a drink at the Museum Bar and hear sets from Trees.R.Good, K’in Ensemble, and the RNCM’s Community Chorus.

Explore Manchester Museum as never before and let Nature’s Music redefine your museum experience.

Felicity Cliffe will be performing in ‘Rock Piece’ by Pauline Oliveros and conducting ‘Second Song for Many’ by Tim Parkinson.
